No March Madness for Senior Year

For me, the greatest moments of high school and college have been sports related. I was devastated my senior year of high school when a shoulder reconstruction surgery meant I was done. And now during my senior year of college, it doesn’t look promising that I will walk for graduation in May.

For the college seniors who were expected to play in March Madness, I couldn’t imagine the pain and sadness they are going through.

Seniors like Adrian Chapman, a guard for the Indiana University Hoosiers, and Devonte Green, another guard for IU will not be able to finish their senior year playing the one sport they have risked it all for.

For some, sports don’t even cross their minds daily, but for those of us so involved and “too far gone” when it comes to the love of sports, it’s our life. It’s emotional for those of us who look forward to turning on the tv at night and watching our favorite teams put in work. For us select few, there’s nothing else we would rather do.

I know for myself personally, not having sports has been a struggle, especially during this time of the year that I have always looked forward to. As a former athlete myself with my senior year ripped from under me, I could not imagine being in the Big Ten and not being able to get that last chance to walk on the court and play that game you love. All the blood, sweat, and tears put in seem almost pointless now.

Will the NCAA give these seniors another chance? Or will it be too late?

In the words of country music star Scotty McCreery, “Can’t you give us, five more minutes?”
